Vitamin E was found to be a vitamin because it is necessary for reproduction. It is a factor in food that makes animals sterile if it is missing. If you give it to the food like the fertility like the is produced.
Desire to have children and reproductive medicine
There is a reason why the child is not satisfied with the conventionally used alpha-tocopherol: the absorption and distribution of vitamin E in the intestine depends on tocopherol transfer protein (TTP). The function of theses TTP can also be disturbed in people or the age restricted sa and so the vitamin E supply such as the fertility [more about TTP]
But this does not apply to tocotrienols. Because these can also be distributed independently of TPP. This was discovered in experiments with TPP-deficient mice. These animals were able to experience the vitamin E effect through tocotrienols and were thus able to reproduce.
If the child's wish is not fulfilled, it is obvious to use a tocotrienol mixture to ensure the vitamin E supply.
The Formation and function of sex hormones is also dependent on vitamin E. Sex hormones are not only important for reproduction but also for many other functions such as maintaining bone density, effect against depression, dry skin, facial wrinkles. Last but not least, the libido, in women as well as in men.
A Japanese study from 1982 [here, pdf 877kb(English)] with eleven men (average age 54) and animals provided the following insights:
Deficiencies in vitamin E caused
- Significantly lower levels of the hormones FSH, LH and the sex hormones
- a Verklaung the pituitary gland
- a lower sperm production
Vitamin E supplementation resulted in an increase in hormone production in the pituitary gland (FSH and LH).
These results show that a lack of vitamin E had a significantly negative effect on the sex hormones, which could be compensated for by supplementation with (conventional) vitamin E.
At this point there was originally a text from the manufacturer that generally suggested an increase in hormone production through tocotrienols. After careful examination, the studies now represent the following:
- Vitamin E deficiency has a strong negative impact on sex hormones (the ability of men to reproduce is also limited as a result)
- There are no own findings on tocotrienolsn available to date. Tocotrienol/tocopherol mixtures can produce fertility as well as tocopherol, which suggests that the limited function of the TTP protein (usually genetically determined) is essential for vitamin E supply.
Anthee effects on hormones
insulin
Insulin is a hormone that is of increasing importance due to the high prevalence of type II diabetes in society. Early studies with tocotrienol (Quereshi et al) showed improved blood sugar levels after taking tocotrienol (200 mg/d). A possible explanation for this effect is the protection of the insulin receptors in the cell walls by tocotrienols.
Final note hormones
Since the effect of the tocotrienols on hormones is based on their property as an excellent antioxidant on cell membranes, one must assume that the increases in the sensitivity to hormones are due to anormalizationwhich is based on better functioning cell membranes.
